Friendly Garden Club looking for donations for flowers at Starbuck beach
Over the years the Starbuck Beautification Committee and the Friendly Garden Club have beautified and enlivened Starbuck with hanging flower baskets, flower planters and flower beds in the downtown area, the park and the beach.
Last year with the help of the city, the VFW Men’s Auxiliary and members of the Friendly Garden Club created the flower beds by the beach house (which was renovated and the snack shack open) were expanded and a tiered flower/rock garden was built and planted at the south end of the beach by the boat landing. They received many compliments and saw a much increased use of the beach during the summer. The necessary funds were raised from local businesses and organizations to cover the increased flower planting, watering and fertilizing.
Over the fall and winter they were able to secure at no cost, nine large 6-foot and two smaller 4-foot concrete flower planters from Arbor Lakes Shopping Center in Maple Grove and have them moved to Starbuck. thanks to Lori Vaadeland and Ted and Denise Razink. With the help of the city and in cooperation with the Beautification Committee and the Friendly Garden Club, they are working on the placement of at least half of the planters around the city to make Starbuck even more appealing, inviting and beautiful in 2015. They also have further expanded the flower beds by the beach house and are also planning to do some landscaping around the beach house this year.
Of course this will take more money to buy more flowers, fertilizer and watering accessories than last year. They are hoping to raise at least $600 for this purpose. Therefore they are making a public appeal to individuals, businesses, and organizations to consider making a contribution to help bring life and beauty to Starbuck and continue to improve on an already appealing town and its economic activity. Individuals, businesses or organizations may send contributions to the Friendly Garden Club, c/o Cindy Burgess, 21716 291st Ave., Starbuck, MN 56381 or call her at 320-239-4141.
